Dive Trips in Pattaya. Wreck and Coral Diving Every Day.

Pattaya scuba diving

Dive Sites. The main scuba diving areas around Pattaya are located in what we call the “Far Islands”. These are the second ring of islands about 20 – 30 kilometers from Pattaya. The islands are controlled by the Thai Navy, and no permanent structures are built there (boat traffic also at a minimum).

These islands include Koh Rin, Koh ManWichai, Koh Keung Badaan, Koh Hu Chang and Kho Phi. Altogether, we have up to 20 different dive sites with visibility ranging from 5 – 15 meters. There are many different types of soft and hard corals, and large schools of Jacks, Barracuda and Tuna. Blue spotted Stingrays, Turtles, Porcupine Puffer fish and Moray Eels can be spotted on virtually every dive.

The highlight of Pattaya and Samae San diving is the two, superb shipwrecks.

The HTMS Khram is a new wreck that was recently sunk by the Thai Navy for divers! The Hardeep is a 60 meter long cargo ship sunk in 28 meters during the World War II era. This ship is reasonably intact, and can be navigated from bow to stern entirely on the inside, by our dive leaders. Click here to see Pattaya wreck diving photos.

Once all are ready, we set of to the Bali Hai pier or Samae San, from where you will board one of our 3 comfortable boats that are fully equipped with Oxygen as well as safety gear. All boats have plenty of space to lie down and relax as well as toilets and showers, 2 even have sun decks, so bring the sun block along.

Day Diving in PattayaAfter a short boat brief, to familiarize yourself with the boat as well as where all the facilities are, you can then set up your gear and relax on the short trip out to where we will do the first dive, the time it takes to go to the dive sites will average about 45 minutes, depending on dive site. Along the way to the first dive site, you will get a nice breeze, whilst see the many islands pass you by as we sail off to your first adventure.

Just before you jump in the water, you will off course have a dive brief from either your Team Leader or PADI Instructor, who will go through the whole dive site that you are about to emerge yourself into, so that you can be familiar with it as well as know what to expect in terms of marine life as well as other things such as currents, dive procedures and safety issues, then you do your buddy check, look towards the horizon and take a large step forward.

After your first dive, once back on the boat, you will have time enough to change your tanks as well as relax over a great and delicious lunch, which is included in all our prices as well as water, tea and coffee, made up of a mix of Thai and Western food (the menu changes daily), as well as vegetarian options for those who request it. This is a great time to compare notes on your dive as well as past dives, dive locations, dive equipment and get to know new people, who share similar interests.

We will then move the boat to the next location (we may do this after the first dive), where again you will get a dive brief, before your buddy check and then into the blue.

After your final dive (unless you have paid for one extra) we will head back to the pier, whilst you relax and enjoy the ride, chatting with the other divers. All the Equipment will be packed and made ready for transport back to the Dive Center in Jomtien.

Once on the pier, you will get back on our vehicles and brought back to the Mermaids Dive Center, where you will be able to stamp your log book, as well as finish with the Instructors if you are on a course. You are off course you welcome to browse around in our well stocked dive equipment shop.

When you are finished, we will then take you back to your hotel.

This is a great way to spend a day out on the boat, alone or with the family, enjoying the nature and being part of it, whether your are snorkeling, diving or just coming along for the ride.

Pattaya Have 3 Magnificent Ship Wrecks.

Pattaya wrecks

The highlight of Pattaya and Samae San diving is the 3 superb shipwrecks. The HTMS Khram, HTMS Kut, a new wreck that was recently sunk by the Thai Navy for divers! The Hardeep is a 60 meter long cargo ship sunk during the World War II.

The Thai navy has sunk a decommissioned warship near Koh Larn island, just 45 minutes away from Pattaya Bay to create an artificial reef and marine breeding ground in honor of the His Majesty, King of Thailand’s 60th year on the throne.

Another newly sunk HTMS Khram shipwreck is located just south of Koh Phi and has fast become a favorite among local divers. An incredible amount of marine life has already been attracted to this wreck in a very short period of time.

The Samae San/Sattahip area has similar diving conditions, with the added attraction of two large intact shipwrecks. The Petchburi Bremen is an old freighter sunk in 21 meters of water in the Khram Channel (Sattahip). It’s home to many Grouper and Barracuda. The Hardeep is a cargo ship sunk in 28 meters during the World War II era.

This ship is reasonably intact, and can be navigated from bow to stern entirely on the inside, by divers with the proper training. Both wrecks are ideal for doing PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course or Advanced Open Water Wreck Specialty.

Please note that both wrecks are only suitable for divers with or least Advanced Open Water Diver Certification (or any other training agency equivalent), due to the depth limit. Please contact us for more information.

IANTD Courses

IANTD Advanced Nitrox Diver To get even more bottom time you can take the IANTD Advanced Nitrox course. In this course we teach you how to use a tank with 2 valve openings and 2 regulators (H Valve) for greater safety in the 30-40 meter depth range. If you blow an O-ring – No Problem! We also show you how to safely perform decompression dives. By using a gas mixture of 50% oxygen and 50% nitrogen you can do short, safe decompression stops. The nitrogen in your body from the dive will quickly be eliminated through your lungs. How about a 30 meter dive for 60 minutes searching for lost dive gear off the Hardeep?

Does exploring the superstructure of the Vertical Wreck appeal to you. The IANTD Intermediate (Normoxic) Trimix Diver course allows you to travel the entire 60 meters of the wreck. We do this by replacing the nitrogen in your tanks with helium. This new gas, Trimix, reduces nitrogen narcosis and enables you to think clearly at deeper depths. You can be at 60 meters and only feel the narcosis of a 30 meter air dive! All those unexplored vertical wreck rooms (and the 2 Giant Grouper) at 55 meters are now safely within reach! IANTD Instructor Training is available for qualified Instructors to Advanced EANX Level!

Safety First!

We pride ourselves on the provision of first class and safe training and as such require you to complete Medical Statement Form to ensure that you are medically fit to dive.

Please read about Scuba Diving Safety before attending the course.

We recommend you to get familiar with Liability Release and Assumption of Risk form. It is not necessary to fill the form prior to taking your training. This form or similar will be filled at the training facility and signed by your Instructor before you start training course.

We use all facilities and boats which are equipped with First Aid and Oxygen Kits and all our Instructors successfully completed Emergency First Response Course, CPR training and certified by accredited agency to perform such services.

All diving involves a degree of risk, because, after all, we are air-breathing mammals and are not designed for breathing underwater. If we accept this premise, and admit to ourselves that we are voluntarily entering an alien environment, we are more likely to approach our diving with a sensible degree of caution. We must also acknowledge that we rely totally on our equipment while diving.

Be Safe, Remember These Safety Tips.

  • Be trained by a recognized agency.Such diver training will make you aware of the more common problems you will face underwater, and how to reduce the likelihood of these problems occurring.
  • Be sure that you are medically fit for diving.  Some medical conditions are not compatible with safe diving, while other conditions may allow you to dive safely with caution. It is important that divers over 40 receive regular medical check-ups.
  • Be sure that you are physically fit for diving. Diving may require exertion beyond what is usual for you and it is important that you are fit enough to deal with this.
  • Thoroughly prepare and check your gear prior to diving. You rely totally on your dive equipment while underwater.
  • Choose dives that match your training, experience and confidence. Dive within your comfort zone on all dives.
  • Listen to your inner voice. If you do not feel right while underwater, or you feel that you have exceeded your comfort level, abort the dive.
  • Watch your ascent rate on all dives. You should never exceed an ascent rate of 10m/minute when diving shallower than about 30m. An ascent rate of 5-6 metres per minute is recommended in the last 10m of ascent.
  • Complete safety stops on all dives that exceed 10m depth. Safety stops assist with reduction of excess nitrogen, which reduces the risk of DCI. They also slow your ascent rate, by forcing you to stop for a period of time. The rule of thumb is 3-5 minutes at 5-6 meters. An additional deeper stop may sometimes be beneficial after deeper dives.
  • Always dive with a buddy. Your safety and your enjoyment will be enhanced by being with a companion while underwater.
  • Plan your dive. You and your buddy should agree on depth, time, air cut-off, and safety stops.
  • Plan your dive so you surface with a minimum of 50bar. Don’t look at it as wasted air, but as insurance against the possibility of some emergency that causes your air consumption to increase.
  • If you have had a layoff from diving, or you have been unwell, do some easier dives to regain your confidence and skill.
  • Revise your skills regularly. Practice such survival skills as mask-clearing, regulator removal, and air-sharing regularly.
  • Log your dives. A record of your diving history may come in very handy should you ever seek higher levels of training.
